Azerbaijan, July 17 — Azerbaijani Ambassador to Turkmenistan Gismat Gozalov highlighted the deep cultural and historical ties between the two Turkic nations, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, by quoting the famous 11th-century scholar Mahmud al-Kashgari: “At Türkün qanadıdır” — “The horse is the wings of the Turk.”

The ambassador’s statement came during a series of cultural and diplomatic events celebrating the shared heritage of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, held during Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s visit to Karabakh, Azerbaijan.
This phrase by Mahmud Kashgari is not just a poetic expression — it is a reflection of the turkic civilization.
For centuries, the horse has been at the heart of Turkic life, from the steppes of Central Asia to the mountains of the Caucasus. It is a symbol of the unity, the resilience, and their shared destiny.
The ambassador’s remarks coincided with the high-profile visit of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, chairman of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan, to Shusha. There, Aliyev gifted a Karabakh horse named “Dostluq” (“Friendship”) to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The gesture was widely seen as a tribute to the enduring brotherhood between the two nations.
Ambassador Gozalov emphasized, with this post, that such cultural symbols are vital in strengthening diplomatic ties and preserving the spiritual bonds among Turkic peoples.
