On September 24, within the framework of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, a special session entitled “Global Action to Improve the Survival and Reduce the Suffering of Children with Cancer and Other Serious Illnesses” was organized at the initiative of Uzbekistan’s First Lady, Ziroat Khoshimova. The event, held in cooperation with the World Health Organization, was attended by the first ladies of several countries, including Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.

It should be noted that Uzbekistan is also carrying out active and systemic work in this area. In 2024, a Presidential Decree “On Further Improving Medical Care for Children with Oncological, Hematological, and Immunological Diseases” was adopted. On this basis, the Scientific-Practical Medical Center of Pediatric Oncology, Hematology, and Immunology was established, along with a special fund under its auspices. Moreover, starting from July 1, 2024, patients aged 18–21 have been given the opportunity to continue receiving free treatment at designated medical centers, as well as at institutions where they had previously been treated. The main goal of these reforms is to increase the survival rate of children with oncological diseases to 60 percent by 2030.

The active participation of Ziroat Khoshimova on the international stage vividly demonstrates the importance of women’s diplomacy. Such initiatives not only draw global attention to pressing social issues but also strengthen friendship and cooperation among nations.

Overall, the diplomatic engagement of the First Lady today serves not only to address the most urgent challenges of society but also to strengthen international relations on the basis of humanity, goodwill, and mutual trust.
