Shusha, July 17, 2025 — President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Chairman of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the “Heydar Aliyev and Karabakh” exhibition at the Creativity Center in Shusha, which was restored by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
The exhibition showcases rare photographs, documents, and video materials highlighting National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s contributions to the social, economic, political, and cultural development of Karabakh. It also features images from his visits to the region and various meetings and events he attended.
The building, listed as a site of national architectural significance, once housed the caravanserai of Agha Kahraman Mirsiab oglu. Restoration work, initiated by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in 2022, returned the structure to its original state. The Creativity Center officially opened on May 10, 2023.
It is worth noting that a major turning point in the history of Karabakh and East Zangezur began in 1969. Despite the complex historical context, Heydar Aliyev implemented wide-ranging reforms across all areas of life in the region. One of his strategic and historically significant achievements was the commissioning of the Aghdam–Khankendi railway in 1979, which strengthened Karabakh’s economic and logistical ties with other regions of Azerbaijan.
