At a government meeting held on July 22, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Construction, Olzhas Saparbekov, outlined the country’s strategic priorities for the development of its rare earth metals sector, according to a Qazinform correspondent (Seilkhanov, A. 2025, July 22).
Saparbekov announced that a comprehensive development plan for the rare earth metals industry for 2024–2028 has been adopted and is currently being implemented, following directives from the Head of State.
Exploration activities have been completed at 11 sites, leading to the discovery of the promising Kuiryktykol deposit. On the industrial side, eight enterprises across Kazakhstan are already producing specialized rare earth products.
Taking into account both domestic production capacity and global market demand, Kazakhstan will focus on four key areas in its rare earth development strategy:
- Battery materials
- Heat-resistant alloys
- Semiconductor materials
- Permanent magnets
The Deputy Minister also highlighted Kazakhstan’s active international cooperation in the rare earth sector, particularly with the European Union, the United Kingdom, South Korea, China, and Japan.
As previously reported, Kazakhstan plans to launch 190 manufacturing projects across various sectors in 2025 (Seilkhanov, A. 2025, July 22).
