LLDC3 : Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow Meets UN Secretary-General

Turkmenistan’s National Leader and Chairman of the People’s Council, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, welcomed United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at Türkmenbaşy International Airport ahead of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3).

According to the Turkmen State News Agency (TDHA), Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the unanimous adoption of the resolution to hold the conference during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly reflects Turkmenistan’s growing influence and credibility on the global stage.

Secretary-General Guterres expressed his appreciation for Turkmenistan’s efforts in hosting an international forum of such significance, noting the country’s steady progress along the path of sustainable development.

During the meeting, Berdimuhamedov highlighted the importance of addressing the development challenges faced by landlocked nations and stressed the value of exchanging views in this area. He underscored that organizing a high-level forum under UN auspices is a testament to the international community’s confidence in Turkmenistan.

The timing of the conference was also noted for its symbolic importance, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality status and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

Both parties expressed confidence that the agreements reached during the conference would positively impact global economies and contribute to the advancement of the transport and logistics sectors.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Berdimuhamedov thanked Guterres for his commitment to organizing a world-class forum in Turkmenistan and wished him success throughout the conference.

The arrival of a president like Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is also expected.

The King of the Kingdom of Eswatini and Ugandan Prime Minister Robnin Nabbanja also attended, along with the Azerbaijani and Uzbek delegations.
