Yesterday, a historic moment took place in Baku. During an official visit to Azerbaijani soil, Turkmenistan’s National Leader and former President, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, was gifted a Karabakh horse. What was presented before everyone’s eyes was not just a horse—it was a symbol of a thousand-year-old brotherhood, a shared culture, and a common destiny.

Because for the Turkic nations, the horse is both a wing and a symbol of honor. And the Karabakh horse is not only a breed—it is a symbol of a people’s struggle for freedom and dignity. That horse represents the Karabakh resistance, the victory of Shusha, and the noble resurgence of the Turkic spirit. Such a gift can only be given to a brother.

For many years, Turkmenistan had chosen to keep its distance from the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). But now, the winds are shifting. Speaking in Shusha yesterday, National Leader Berdimuhamedov made a clear and direct statement: “Turkmenistan’s full membership in the Organization of Turkic States is on the agenda. We will become a full member in October.”

This declaration is not just a diplomatic development—it is a historic turning point. The once-disconnected veins of the Turkic world are slowly reconnecting, and peoples of the same origin are beginning to walk the same path.

Undoubtedly, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s personal relationships, diplomatic experience, and visionary approach have played a major role in Turkmenistan’s strategic shift. Today, Azerbaijan is not only the warrior nation that liberated Karabakh—it is also the unifying mind that brings together the hearts and states of the Turkic world.

One of the most striking aspects of the visit was this: Turkmenistan’s National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov did not remain only in Baku—he traveled to the liberated territories, especially Shusha. This was the strongest indication that brotherhood is not just spoken, but lived on the ground. The visit also served as a declaration that the victory in Karabakh is a victory for the entire Turkic world.

Just as Türkiye strives to establish unity in the Middle East, Azerbaijan has become a leading actor in reuniting the Turkic world.

And all these developments now lead us to say: It feels as though we can already hear the footsteps of a magnificent Turkic-Islamic union rising shoulder to shoulder, built with shared wisdom and faith.

This sound is neither just an ideal nor a romantic expectation… It is the noble echo of hooves resonating in the mountains of Karabakh. It is a call coming from beyond the Caspian. It is the longing of the steppes. And this sound is drawing nearer with each passing day.
